The main themes of Wide Sargasso Sea are revenge, perception, and duality. The main character often questions who they are, what they want from life, and how they are supposed to live. The chains and veiled faces add to this convoluted perception of self. The original book covers for Wide Sargasso Sea are floral and vibrant. The main character was born in the Caribbean, so I understand why one would want to display the book in such a way. However, one of the main points of the book is the depressing nature of her life in that region and the fact that she was taken from her homeland and brought to the most dreary place on earth. Casting away saturation gives a sense of gloom that represents the core plot points of this book.
